  1. International Day of Argania or International Day of the Argan Tree is annually observed across the world on 10 May to promote awareness about the role of the Argan tree (Argania spinosa)’s environmental importance worldwide. This was established by UNESCO in 2021. The theme of International Argania Day 2023 is “Socio-economic development & sustainability of the Argan ecosystem”.
  2. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and Ministry of Railways jointly signed an MoU with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for ‘Station Area Development along Mumbai- Ahmedabad High Speed Rail’ (Project-SMART).
  3. Researchers at BITS Pilani Hyderabad have designed a face mask equipped with a sensor to detect illness.
  4. Badminton Asia has appointed Omar Rashid, the Joint Secretary of the Badminton Association of India (BAI), as the Chair of the Technical Officials Committee.
  5. Lithium reserves have been discovered in Rajasthan’s Degana following the recent discovery in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district.
  6. A report commissioned by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas in India has proposed prohibiting the usage of diesel-fueled four-wheeled vehicles in cities with a population exceeding 10 lakhs by 2027, and instead, promoting electric and gas-based vehicles.
  7. World 100m champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was named Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year at the prestigious 2023 Laureus World Sports Awards in Paris.

  11. BharatPe, a leading fintech company in India, has announced the rebranding of PAYBACK India, the country’s largest multi-brand loyalty program, as ‘Zillion’.  
  12. Qatar has been chosen by FIBA (International Basketball Federation) to host the highly anticipated 2027 men’s Basketball World Cup.
  13. The University of Kashmir will host a two-day Youth20 (Y20) event on climate change that will bring together delegates from 10 countries, including India.
  14. Pakistan batter Fakhar Zaman and Thailand skipper Naruemol Chaiwai were named ICC Men’s and Women’s Players for the month of April respectively.
  15. Telangana announced Robotics Framework which would encompass creating an ecosystem for robotics that champions innovation, entrepreneurship, and research and development, and set up the Telangana Robotics Innovation Centre (TRIC) as a nodal agency to ensure that this goal materialises.
  16. Indian Wushu athletes have won a total of 17 medals (10 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze) at the Moscow Wushu Stars Championship 2023 held in Moscow, Russia from 2 May to 8 May, 2023.
